Decoding Arjen Robben’s thoughts on Depay and Manutd

“Memphis will Storm United to Titles this season under Louis” – Arjen Robben

Sitting in front of my computer, I am saying to myself “let’s see”. I have always been a Dutch football aficionado and it’s funny that in the end we get mocked like Arsenal for playing good football and yet being trophy-less or not winning the coveted prize.

Arjen Robben’s Prophecy

Robben was arguably Netherlands’ best player during at the World Cup held in Brazil where they finished third in the tournament, after bowing out in the semi-finals to Argentina. Depay played an important part in their progression and the Bayern Munich man reckons that Van Gaal can lead United to title glory this season if the other recruits can bed into his philosophy. The Red Devils have won their opening two games by a slender margin and have made their way into the group stages of the Champions League following a 3-1 win over Club Brugge at home. Depay, scoring two goals and should have had a hat-trick when he blazed Wayne Rooney’s lay-off over the bar from inside the penalty box.

Robben on Depay

“Memphis can become the complete player under his [Van Gaal’s] guidance. It will not be easy, it never is when there are so many new players to settle him, but I think Louis could win the league with Manchester United this year.” Robben and Depay played alongside in this edition of the world cup and onlookers had already hailed him as a “fine cut Robben”. Only time will tell will he go on to become better than Robben or is it just the initial fizz. But people who have watched United bulldoze Club Brugge will know that they have a special talent amongst them. Memphis Depay or now called as Memphis is strong as an OX and runs as fast as a sprinter and to couple it up he has amazing trickery and a heart of a lion to take a distance shot when no one gives him a chance. After a long time, United fans saw an “encore” of Ronaldo. Matched by same traits but it’s too early to compare the youngster as he himself quoted to MUTV “Honestly, I don’t have any targets and I don’t set myself any, definitely not for the first season”. To be honest as a Manchester united fan I am quite content with his thought flow. No need of unwanted pressure of big money move or stats. You are young and have moved to one of the most enthralling league in the world. Learn from experienced people and then when you feel you are ready, you don’t need a detonator Memphis, we believe you are Hulk “because you are always angry and ready to explode”.

Robben on Memphis’s influence and Rejection of the Beatles city (Liverpool)

“I know that there was Liverpool and Manchester United were interested in him, but it was an easy decision for him. There would have been no reason for him to join a club not playing in the Champions League, and Louis van Gaal is one of the best coaches in the world”, Analyzing Robben’s statement makes perfect sense of thinking why Memphis would move to United and he may just spill the beans. Though as a united fan I couldn’t care less what Brendan does but it’s amazing how he went on to say “Unfortunately for you guys, it wasn’t one we were ever interested in. He’s obviously a talented young player. But we already have four wingers at the club.” Now Mr. Rodgers out of 4 wingers, Sterling has gone to bluer pastures and other 3 are Ibe, Lallana, and Lazar Markovic so if you say your wings are way too quick or the way to creative then I recommend you to meet “Deluded Brendan” at least he has a better sense of humor.

Can Manchester United push for the title?

Writing this half of the united fan brigade is divided in ‘Pedro wasn’t needed and Pedro was missed’ and other half is ‘Otamendi is not a ball playing Centre back and we are in for a striker’. Both sets are right at their end but personally as a football enthusiast I have a slightly different take. “It will not be easy, it never is when there are so many new players to settle him, but I think Louis could win the league with Manchester United this year. It’s his team now, his players, and if the new signings settle quickly, I think it’s possible.” Said the Dutch Wing maestro on being asked about United’s chances of the title. Realistically speaking City and Chelsea are top squad and their Squad depth is really scary. But having said that we are playing in a league where Chelsea has a point who are premier league defending champions and the team with worst or shambolic defense as per critics haven’t conceded. I would be lying if I say I believe United will win the title with this squad. But as a fanatic fan I know one thing that Manchester United doesn’t become champions because they win, we win because we are the champions on the field. It’s a long shot league, 36 games to go and we never know. I believe in Louis Van Gaal and I think he can pull a rabbit out of the hat not a league win but then who gave us chance when a famous scouser said: “you don’t win anything with kids ? “.
