Players to watch out for
In the absence of a host of players who is being rested with the Gold Cup in mind, FC Twente’s Jesus Corona who has been lighting it up in the Dutch Eredivisie will see the brunt of Mexico’s creative burden placed on his young shoulders. The 23-year-old was one of the few bright sparks in Mexico’s loss to Brazil recently and will hope to continue his run of form as Mexico look to put three points on the board before their match against group favorites and hosts Chile.
Marcelo Moreno, the former Shakhtar Donetsk player is the player with the second largest number of caps in the squad despite being just 27 years old. Competent with the ball at both feet and possessing decent pace, he will have his task cut out against the experienced Mexican back line tonight.
With some key players rested for this tournament and the squad being called a ‘B team’, the Mexican players will have a point to prove on the pitch in Chile. This is a chance for some of their players to bring themselves into the fold for the tournaments that come up in the future. Playing a high tempo 3-4-3 formation with a solid setup, Mexico will look to take the game to the less fancied Bolivians. Bolivia, on the other hand, seems to favor a measured approach with barely any wing play in their 4-3-2-1 formation. They will look to sit back, absorb the Mexican pressure and hit the opposition on the counter and from set pieces. Despite missing quite a few players, Mexico is expected to do enough to win this game against a Bolivia team that has only one win in the last 16 games.
