Players to watch out for
Coming off a very successful first season in the premier league with Arsenal, Sanchez will be the go to man for Chile in attack as the hosts look to take control of the group with an early win. With tricks, pace and an eye for goal, Sanchez on his day is one of the best players in the world. With pace to burn and comfortable with both feet, Jefferson Montero will be the man leading the counters for Ecuador. The partnership with Enner Valencia on the right could see Montero leave defenders in his wake and be the driving force for Ecuador in attack.
Chile is expected to play their high pressure 3-4-2-1 played at a mind numbing pace – the closest to total football that modern football can offer. With the weaker set of players, Ecuador will look to play deep in defense to nullify the energetic Chilean game. Slowing down the tempo will be Ecuador’s best bet at controlling the game. Once Chile lose the ball, Ecuador could look to use the searing pace of Enner Valencia, Montero and Paredes along the right flank and hurt the weaker, less experienced left flank of Chile on the counter. However, boasting the superior set of players and balanced quality throughout the lineup, Chile are the clear favorites in this game. An early goal for Chile could open up Ecuador to the ruthless penetration and a flurry of goals for the hosts, while the longer the game goes without a goal, the likelier Ecuador will be of getting something out of the game.
Chile 3 – 1 Ecuador
